Resolution

12/1/19

I hate New Year's resolutions.

Clock strikes midnight, a new year begun.
Lovers kissing with passion & commitment, others just for fun.
Dreams and visions of grand improvements,
from whimsical fitness goals, to simple full-time employment.
December 31st is when all say "the old me is dead!"
Why wait? Each day passes, act now! Get ahead!
A year at its core is one trip in a circle around the sun,
geometry says that for a circle's beginning there is none.
The optimist would say the circle's beginnings are infinite,
meaning every second can be the one you get into it.
The one where you learn a new dish, like seafood scampi,
or the one where you stop half-assing shit and increase your ante.
Maybe the one where you go for a walk,
yeah it isn't a jog, but when did you last make it around the block?
Anytime is the time to make a change
no matter how far, separated, and estranged
you are now from where you want to be.
Stick to it for a week, nay, a few days, and you'll see
maybe not results, but a sense of accomplishment for certain.
For once, set aside fears of failure & pull back the curtain
between what you think you can and cannot do.

That is when the old you dies, and the year begins anew.
